We usually expect applicants to our secondary training places to have a degree in which at least 50% of the content is in the relevant subject. However, should you wish to teach biology, design and technology, english , maths, physics, chemistry, computing, geography or a language (French, Spanish), applicants who do not fully meet this expectation may be able to benefit from subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) opportunities. See the Get into teaching website for more information. If we believe you have the right qualities to become a teacher, we may offer you a training place conditional on undertaking a SKE programme. We review all eligible applications with Subject Tutors at our partner universities, to assess whether SKE is required and, where applicable, to identify an appropriate programme. You may also wish to contact us in advance of submitting an application (see above for contact details.)
Waverley School also works with Higher Education Providers (HEIs) to offer placements to trainees on university-led PGCE / PGDipEd courses in both primary and secondary phases. We have a strong track record of providing excellent experiences for students from the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Kingston University, Staffordshire University, Wolverhampton University and Newman University. If you are an HEI looking to source placements, send an email to Claire Dugard, Professional Partnerships and Research Coordinator, or phone 0121 566 6600 ext. 31062.
