Year 11 Study Support

Year 11 Study Support Parent Information

Dear Parents/Carers

RE: Year 11 Study Support Parent Information: ‘Prepare to Perform’ on Thursday 21st October 2021 4:30pm-6:00pm

I am delighted to invite you to an evening which will not only support you as parents and carers to enable your child to prepare well for exams, but will also give you an opportunity to find out more about our very successful sixth form. All our year 13 students over the last three years have gone on to higher education, apprenticeships or employment with training.

The first part of our evening starts in our main hall at 4:30pm when we warmly invite you to join us for light refreshments to talk to staff before the study support session starts at 5pm.  This session lasts for a full hour. It is not a drop-in, and it will start promptly on time at 5pm.

Students and parents are welcomed to attend together.

All year 11 pupils have reached the final and crucial 8 months of their GCSE courses. The current examination system requires the content and skills that your child has acquired to be tested in terminal exams in May and June 2021. This means that students have to learn, retain, recall and apply huge volumes of information in exam conditions in order to access marks in exams. We want to do everything we can to help them to revise smartly and to help you to support them over the coming months.

In the summer of 2022, year 11 and 13 exams return to their normal format and the Government has informed all schools of that.

During the study support session, we will give parents, carers and students some important and helpful advice and information including curriculum information, successful revision strategies in English and Mathematics and how to plan, organise and carry out a successful revision programme across all subjects leading to the final exams.

During the evening year 11 students who attend will be given a gift bag which will include a range of study support materials that we have bought for our students to support their revision journey. Other support materials will be given out at the end of the evening.

If you have any questions about the evening please contact any of the following members of staff: Mrs Lloyd, Principal for Secondary and Sixth Form, Mr Derry, Vice Principal or Mr Dowe, Achievement Coordinator for Year 11.

I look forward to welcoming you to this very important and informative evening.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Lloyd
