Sports studies

Curriculum

Students study PE in Year 7 & 8. Within Year 9 (the foundation curriculum year), students either continue to study Core PE or follow the vocational Sports Studies curriculum.

KS3/4 - year 9, 10 & 11

The Physical Education curriculum is designed to be challenging, appropriate to each pupil’s stage of development. It develops young leaders in roles that include leading, coaching, officiating and opportunities to peer assess and self-assess performance.

Year 11 students have an option block in which they decide on the sports they are going to participate in for the year. With the lessons students will participate in conditioned games looking at tactics and strategies to outwit opponents. The PE department also stress the importance of students being active to educate them on leading a healthy active lifestyle and how PE can help with mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Modules studied are:

  • Sports leadership
  • Developing sports skills
  • Developing key skills in outdoor education
